Within the Predators Shadow

At first I was going to draw my first original character Cloe for the contest but changed my mind and decided to draw Sara, the main character in my animation I'm working on.

5+ hours, honestly afraid to calculate how many hours it took, lol

I redid my contest entry a couple times because it didn't feel right. My first designs were of my first original character 'Cloe', but I didn't really feel satisfied with anything I came up with, the 2nd idea was to draw my main character for an animation I'm working on. In the middle of coloring I decided it was too plain and lacked something. So I scrapped that and came up with this concept.
I really wanted her to be in the shadow of the dinosaur, to create a cinematic sort of feel. I think the more I worked on it the more it went from a cell-shaded piece-to a painted look. I might have gone a little overboard..haha..but I had a lot of fun and I think this really captures 'Sara' very well.

Sara ended up stranded on an island beneath the sea(that's right BENEATH the sea XD), inhabited by dinosaurs. After being captured by the natives of the island they teach her how to survive, and judging by the many predators that lurk the island, she's gonna need all the survival skills she can get.

The animation actually takes place before she's taken in by the natives, but the main story focuses on Sara's day-to-day life trying to get by on the island.

Although the idea of being stranded on the island is a daunting one to most, Sara sees it as a way to escape the normal highschool life she once had. It is a paradise for her to become her own person, free of prejudice, or so she thinks.
